College of Business Professor Madhu Viswanathan teaches a yearlong course on sustainable product development for subsistence marketplaces. In this multidisciplinary course, business, design, and engineering students complete projects for diverse clients who have an interest in creating solutions for people living close to poverty. Each year, Professor Madhu takes his student project teams on a two-week field research trip to India. Here is where students transform into responsive designers. Join ILLINOIS students as they gain insights on the country’s toughest problems, and see how their thought process evolves throughout this eye-opening journey. This course was rated one of the top entrepreneurship courses by Inc magazine in 2011.
